Tips to avoid getting sick this cold & flu season!

With school back in session, plus an onset of erratic temperature ups and downs, illness is bound to strike even the healthiest of people.  Unfortunately, gym goers are far from exempt when it comes to getting sick because gyms are hosts for germ activity.  That being said, there is no better time to utilize some specific “squeaky-clean strategies” so you can stay healthy while getting your exercise on.

Cardio machines, free weights, weight machines, and exercise balls all breed germ activity.  Your best defense against catching viruses and fungi lurking here is to wipe down all mats and equipment with a disinfectant before AND after use.  Can’t seem to spot disinfecting spray at your gym?  Antibacterial gel will get you by until you have time to wash your hands post workout.

The locker room and your gym bag are also breeding grounds for microbes such as staph, strep, E.Coli, and pseudomonas, which can cause eye infections.  Being conscientious in these areas will help you avoid getting you sick from these nasty bugs.  Always wear flip-flops in the locker room and showers and clean your gym bag regularly either by washing it or wiping the inside down with disinfecting wipes.
